Glutamate-rich protein 4 (ERICH4) is a small, highly conserved intracellular protein with approximately 130 amino acids and an isoelectric point of 4.0[1]. It contains a domain of unknown function (DUF4530), is highly enriched for glutamate residues (17.7%), and is mainly expressed in human kidney, terminal ileum, and duodenum[1][6]. In silico analyses and limited experimental data suggest its possible involvement in immune responses and lipid metabolism, but knockout studies in mice indicate it does not play a discernible role in intestinal lipid absorption or chylomicron metabolism[2]. There are no established roles in signaling, cell regulation, or disease, nor are there known drugs or biomarkers associated with ERICH4. The gene is also known as C19orf69 or LOC100170765. Subcellular localization is predicted to be cytoplasmic and intracellular, with no transmembrane or secretory domains[1].
