Glutamate Transporter 1 (GLT-1)

Target
GLT-1
Molecular classification
Solute Carrier Family SLC1, Transporter
01

Overview

Glutamate transporter 1 (GLT-1), also known as Excitatory Amino Acid Transporter 2 (EAAT2), is a high-affinity glutamate transporter predominantly found in astrocytes within the central nervous system. It plays a critical role in regulating extracellular glutamate concentrations by transporting glutamate from the synaptic cleft, thereby preventing excitotoxicity. GLT-1 dysfunction is implicated in several neurological disorders, making it a therapeutic target for neuroprotection.
