Glutamic-oxaloacetic transaminase 1-like 1 (GOT1L1) is a putative enzyme predicted to catalyze the transamination of L-aspartate and α-ketoglutarate to L-glutamate in humans. It is classified as a pyridoxal 5′-phosphate-dependent aminotransferase. Expression is highest in the testis, especially in spermatocytes and sperm, suggesting a possible role in spermatogenesis. Previous research proposed GOT1L1 as an aspartate racemase involved in d-aspartate synthesis, which has neurophysiological roles; however, more recent functional studies failed to confirm significant aspartate racemase activity and suggested only weak aminotransferase activity. To date, no clear disease associations, drug interactions, biomarker applications, or therapeutic utilities have been documented in humans.
