Glutamic-oxaloacetic transaminase 2 pseudogene 3 (GOT2P3) is a processed pseudogene in the human genome. Unlike protein-coding genes, pseudogenes are incomplete copies or variants of functional genes that have lost their protein-coding ability due to accumulating mutations. Most pseudogenes, including GOT2P3, do not produce functional proteins and are not directly involved in cellular biochemical functions. While some pseudogenes can have roles in gene regulation via non-coding RNAs, there is currently no evidence supporting significant biological or clinical relevance for GOT2P3. This molecule is not considered a drug target or a biomarker in clinical practice. GOT2P3 is distinct from its parental functional gene, GOT2, which encodes mitochondrial aspartate aminotransferase; the pseudogene does not retain enzymatic activity because it is not translated into protein. As a pseudogene, GOT2P3 may potentially participate in gene regulation as a non-coding RNA, but such roles remain hypothetical unless experimentally validated. There are no known gene products, molecular pathways, or clinical outcomes definitively associated with GOT2P3.
