Glutamine PRPP amidotransferase (GPAT)

Target
GPAT
Molecular classification
Enzyme, Transferase
01

Overview

Glutamine PRPP amidotransferase (GPAT) is a key regulatory enzyme in the de novo purine biosynthesis pathway. It catalyzes the committed step, converting 5-phosphoribosyl-1-pyrophosphate (PRPP) and glutamine to 5-phosphoribosylamine (PRA), the first unique precursor to purines. GPAT is a target for therapeutic intervention in diseases such as cancer and gout, where purine metabolism is dysregulated.
