Glutaminyl-peptide cyclotransferase (QPCT) is a zinc-dependent enzyme that catalyzes the intramolecular cyclization of N-terminal glutamine and glutamic acid residues in peptides to form pyroglutamate. This post-translational modification is crucial for the maturation and function of various peptide hormones and secretory proteins.
