Glutathione S-transferase alpha 11, pseudogene (GSTA11P)

Target
GSTA11P
Molecular classification
Pseudogene (not a protein-coding enzyme), Alpha class glutathione S-transferase family (related by sequence and genomic origin, not by function)[5]
01

Overview

Glutathione S-transferase alpha 11, pseudogene (GSTA11P; also GSTAP3) is a non-protein-coding member of the alpha class GST gene family[5]. Unlike canonical GST alpha enzymes (such as GSTA1 and GSTA2), GSTA11P is a genomic sequence with high similarity to GST alpha genes but lacks protein-coding capability and does not have enzyme activity. Pseudogenes like GSTA11P arise from duplication or mutation events in gene families but have accumulated changes that prevent translation into functional protein. GSTA11P is not included in lists of functional GST alpha enzymes, and there is no evidence to suggest it plays a role in detoxification, drug metabolism, or other physiological pathways[1][5]. It is not a therapeutic target, and its mention should generally be restricted to genomic studies or discussions of GST gene family evolution.
