Glutathione S-transferase P1 (GSTP1)

Target
GSTP1
Molecular classification
Enzyme, Glutathione S-transferase, Transferase
01

Overview

Glutathione S-transferase P1 (GSTP1) is a member of the glutathione S-transferase (GST) superfamily, specifically belonging to the pi class. GSTs are phase II detoxification enzymes that catalyze the conjugation of reduced glutathione (GSH) to a wide range of hydrophobic and electrophilic compounds, facilitating their detoxification and excretion. GSTP1 is encoded by the polymorphic *GSTP1* gene. It plays a critical role in cellular defense against toxins and oxidative stress and is implicated in drug resistance and cancer.
