Glutathione S-transferase theta-2 pseudogene (GSTT2P)

Target
GSTT2P
Molecular classification
Pseudogene, Member of the glutathione S-transferase (GST) superfamily
01

Overview

Glutathione S-transferase theta-2 pseudogene (GSTT2P) is a duplicated, non-functional segment found near the functional GSTT2 gene in humans. Sequence analysis shows splice site abnormalities and a premature stop codon, preventing translation into a functional protein. GSTT2P shares sequence homology with other theta-class GSTs but has no known physiological or pathological roles, unlike the functional homologs which are involved in Phase II detoxification and potentially in carcinogenesis. GSTT2P (ENSG00000250470) is a pseudogene of the glutathione S-transferase theta family, and is not considered a therapeutic target. For valid GST theta targets, refer to GSTT1 or GSTT2.

02

Mechanism of action

Not applicable (GSTT2P does not produce a protein and has no known activity)

03

Biological functions

None (as a pseudogene, it does not encode a functional protein)
04

Disease associations

None directly established; functional GST theta genes have roles in carcinogenesis and detoxification, but the pseudogene itself is not implicated in disease
05

Safety considerations

None specific (not a therapeutic target)
06

Interacting drugs

None (no known drugs interact with GSTT2P, since it is not expressed)
07

Biomarkers

None (not used as a biomarker; functional GSTT genes may be, but not the pseudogene)
