Glutathione Transferase (GST)

Target
GST
Molecular classification
Enzyme, Transferase
01

Overview

Glutathione transferases (GSTs) are a family of enzymes that catalyze the conjugation of glutathione to a wide variety of electrophilic compounds, facilitating their detoxification and excretion. They play a central role in phase II metabolism and have peroxidase and isomerase functions, regulate stress-induced signaling pathways and bind non-catalytically to various ligands. Overexpression of certain GST isoforms is linked with cancer development and chemotherapeutic resistance.
