Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase pseudogene 14 (GAPDHP14) is a processed pseudogene derived from the GAPDH gene, a widely expressed enzyme in glycolysis. Pseudogenes like GAPDHP14 are genomic sequences with high similarity to functional genes but are typically nonfunctional due to mutations, lack of regulatory elements, or frameshifts[1][2][4]. GAPDH pseudogenes are particularly numerous in the human genome, likely reflecting the high expression and multifunctionality of the parental GAPDH gene[1][3]. Though most pseudogenes do not transcribe functional proteins and have no direct biological or disease role, some may influence gene expression or participate in genome evolution or homologous recombination events. However, there1s currently no evidence to suggest that GAPDHP14 has any such function or is a drug target[1][4][5].
