Glyceraldehyde 3 phosphate dehydrogenase pseudogene 23 (GAPDHP23) is a human non-coding genomic element classified as a pseudogene. It is part of a large family of pseudogenes related to the gene encoding glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH), a key glycolytic enzyme. Unlike the GAPDH protein-coding gene, GAPDHP23 does not produce a functional protein and has no assigned physiological or pathological function. Pseudogenes like GAPDHP23 are remnants of gene duplication or retrotransposition events and may occasionally have minor regulatory roles, but as of current knowledge, GAPDHP23 has no experimentally confirmed function, interaction profile, or clinical utility.
