Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase pseudogene 25 (GAPDHP25) is a genomic DNA sequence in humans highly similar to the gene that encodes GAPDH, a key enzyme in glycolysis. Unlike the canonical GAPDH gene, GAPDHP25 is a *pseudogene*: a non-functional remnant of the original gene that lacks the sequence integrity or regulatory elements needed to produce a functional enzyme. The human genome contains about 25 GAPDH-related pseudogenes, many of which arose from reverse transcription and insertion events[3]. Pseudogenes such as GAPDHP25 have no known biological, pathological, or pharmacological function and are generally not considered in drug development or disease association studies[3].
