Target intelligence / Profile preview

Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase pseudogene 26 (GAPDHP26)

Target
GAPDHP26
Molecular classification
Processed pseudogene, Other (pseudogene family)
01

Overview

GAPDHP26 is a processed pseudogene mapped in the human genome, originating from retrotransposition of mRNA of the functional parent gene, GAPDH[1][2]. Unlike its parent gene, it does not produce a functional enzyme and is generally considered genomically inactive, although some pseudogenes exhibit transcriptional activity under select conditions. Pseudogenes such as GAPDHP26 provide insight into the molecular evolution and retrotranspositional history of the genome, but lack defined roles in cellular pathways or disease. GAPDHP26 is annotated as a pseudogene in genomic databases and is not directly implicated in biological functions, molecular pathogenesis, or drug therapy[2][3].
