GAPDHP30 is one of many processed pseudogenes related to the GAPDH gene, which encodes an important glycolytic enzyme. Pseudogenes arise by retrotransposition events from their parent gene transcripts and are prevalent for highly expressed housekeeping genes such as GAPDH, resulting in dozens of pseudogene copies in the human genome. GAPDHP30 itself is a non-protein-coding genomic segment, sequence-related to GAPDH but lacking the ability to encode a functional protein due to disablements such as insertions, deletions, or nonsense mutations. While some pseudogenes can influence gene regulation or genomic architecture, there are no reported biological functions, disease roles, or therapeutic interactions specifically for GAPDHP30. Its significance lies mainly in illustrating the evolutionary dynamics of gene duplication and retrotransposition in the human genome.
