Overview

Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase pseudogene 31 (GAPDHP31) is a pseudogene derived from the functional gene encoding the enzyme glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH)[1][3][7]. Pseudogenes like GAPDHP31 contain sequences similar to the active parent gene but are nonfunctional due to mutations or lack regulatory elements required for expression[1][3]. The GAPDH gene is a key enzyme in glycolysis, but pseudogenes such as GAPDHP31 do not produce active protein and thus lack a biological or therapeutic function[3][7]. Human and animal genomes contain numerous GAPDH-related pseudogenes, particularly due to retrotransposition events, reflecting evolutionary genome changes rather than coding for a functional protein[2][3][7]. There are no known disease roles, interacting drugs, or use as biomarkers for this specific pseudogene.
