Overview

Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase pseudogene 35 (GAPDHP35) is a processed pseudogene derived from the parent gene encoding the glycolytic enzyme glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH). Pseudogenes like GAPDHP35 are considered molecular fossils: they arise from gene duplication or retrotransposition events but have accumulated disabling mutations (such as frameshifts or stop codons) that prevent them from producing a functional protein. They are generally viewed as non-functional at the protein level and do not take part in metabolic pathways or cellular signaling. GAPDH pseudogenes are particularly abundant in the human genome, but most—including GAPDHP35—lack any direct biological activity. In rare cases, some pseudogenes can regulate the expression of their parent genes or participate in gene conversion events, but there is no evidence for such a role for GAPDHP35.

02

Mechanism of action

None (as a non-coding pseudogene, it does not serve as a direct drug target or have mechanisms of action)

03

Biological functions

None directly (pseudogenes do not encode active protein; however, some pseudogenes may regulate their parent gene via various mechanisms such as acting as competing endogenous RNAs)
04

Disease associations

Other (rarely, certain pseudogenes can influence disease risk by disrupting gene expression of their parent genes, but no functional or disease role is reported for GAPDHP35 specifically)
