Overview

Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase pseudogene 41 (GAPDHP41) is a non-coding processed pseudogene in the human genome that shows high sequence homology to the coding gene for glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH), an essential glycolytic enzyme[1][2][3]. This pseudogene was likely generated by retrotransposition—copying of an mRNA back into the genome without a functional coding capacity and contains sequence disablements (mutations) that prevent it from producing functional protein[2][3]. Processed pseudogenes like GAPDHP41 are abundant in the human and mouse genomes and reflect evolutionary history, arising most often from highly expressed housekeeping genes like GAPDH[3]. GAPDHP41 does not have a current known biological function, does not produce a functional protein, and is not implicated in therapeutic targeting, disease, or drug interaction[1][3].

Biological functions

Other (no protein-coding function, though related parental genes such as functional GAPDH are involved in glycolysis)

Disease associations

Other (no direct disease role; pseudogenes generally do not have a direct causal role in human disease, though in rare circumstances some pseudogenes are implicated in gene regulation or as biomarkers)
