Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase pseudogene 43 (GAPDHP43) is a genomic DNA sequence bearing a high similarity to the coding gene for glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH), but it is nonfunctional and does not produce a protein product[2][4][6]. GAPDH is a well-known glycolytic enzyme, but only a single functional GAPDH gene is found in humans and most vertebrates. The genome contains many GAPDH-related pseudogenes, sometimes numbering over 200, that arose from gene duplication or retrotransposition events. These pseudogenes have no known protein-coding function and are not considered therapeutic targets or biomarkers[2][4][6].
