Overview

Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase pseudogene 45 (GAPDHP45) is one of many processed pseudogenes derived from the GAPDH gene, which encodes a central enzyme for glycolysis. GAPDH pseudogenes are abundant in the human genome, created by retrotransposition events from cellular mRNA, but they generally do not produce active protein products and do not serve as functional therapeutic targets or biomarkers[2]. While the parent gene GAPDH is associated with numerous cellular processes and diseases, the pseudogenes—including GAPDHP45—are considered "genomic fossils" that do not encode functional protein.
