Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase pseudogene 51 (GAPDHP51) is a pseudogene related to the functional GAPDH gene. It does not code for an active protein and is not functionally implicated in canonical biological processes or therapeutic targeting. Pseudogenes are genomic DNA sequences similar to normal genes but are nonfunctional due to mutations, lack of regulatory elements, or inability to be transcribed and translated into a functional product[4][7][2]. There are many pseudogenes related to GAPDH in the human genome, resulting from gene duplication and evolutionary events[2]. Only the canonical GAPDH gene encodes the active glycolytic enzyme, which plays diverse cellular roles[1][3][6], while pseudogenes such as GAPDHP51 are not expressed as functional proteins and have no direct therapeutic relevance[4][7][2].
