Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase pseudogene 55 (GAPDHP55)

Target
GAPDHP55
Molecular classification
Pseudogene, Processed pseudogene

Overview

Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase pseudogene 55 (GAPDHP55) is annotated as a genomic pseudogene derived from the glycolytic enzyme GAPDH. Like other pseudogenes in the GAPDH family, it is a non-coding sequence created by retrotransposition of the parent mRNA, followed by disabling mutations. GAPDHP55 does not encode any functional protein, is not transcribed, and has no known biological function or role in disease. It is not considered a therapeutic or research target. The parent GAPDH gene, in contrast, encodes a multifunctional enzyme involved in glycolysis and other cellular processes, but pseudogenes like GAPDHP55 are generally genomic relics without function[1][4][5][7].
