Overview

GAPDHP57 is a noncoding pseudogene belonging to the glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH) gene family, catalogued among dozens of such GAPDH-related pseudogenes in the human and mouse genomes[1][3]. Like other processed pseudogenes, it is the result of retrotransposition events, meaning it arose from the reverse transcription and insertion of GAPDH mRNA into the genome, rather than from gene duplication[3][5]. GAPDHP57 does not produce a functional protein and has no known direct biological or therapeutic relevance. Its presence is mainly considered in studies of genomic evolution, retrotransposition history, and the annotation of pseudogene content in mammalian genomes[3][5]. It is not a receptor, enzyme, transporter, nor is it implicated in disease or drug response. GAPDHP57 is not a valid therapeutic target. It is a pseudogene, meaning a genomic element derived from a once-functional gene but now noncoding and nonfunctional. Functional information about GAPDH protein does not apply to GAPDHP57[1][3][4][5][6].
