Overview

Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase pseudogene 59 (GAPDHP59) is a human pseudogene, meaning it is a genomic sequence that closely resembles a functional gene (in this case, the gene for the metabolic enzyme GAPDH) but is generally nonfunctional because it lacks regulatory elements, contains disruptive mutations, or has lost the ability to code for a functional protein[1][2][3]. Pseudogenes like GAPDHP59 may still be transcribed and, in some instances, produce noncoding RNAs that can regulate parental gene expression or participate in other gene regulatory networks; however, there are no reports of such function for this specific pseudogene. GAPDHP59 is not a receptor, enzyme, or known molecular target and is not used in therapeutic strategies[1][2][3].

Mechanism of action

None. This is a pseudogene and is not a druggable target.

03

Biological functions

Pseudogenes may have certain regulatory roles on gene expression (e.g., acting as sources of non-coding RNA or competing for regulatory elements)Possible regulation of gene expression at RNA level (general pseudogene function)Potential interaction with mRNAs (via antisense transcripts) (general pseudogene function)No established individual biological function documented for GAPDHP59
04

Disease associations

Some pseudogenes have been linked to cancer (potential biomarkers or modulators of tumor biology)No evidence for a direct disease role of GAPDHP59 specifically
