Overview

Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase pseudogene 63 (GAPDHP63) is a human pseudogene, meaning it is a sequence that resembles the gene encoding the glycolytic enzyme glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH) but is non-functional and does not encode an active protein. The human genome contains multiple GAPDH pseudogenes due to gene duplication and retrotransposition events, but these pseudogenes do not contribute to normal cellular metabolism or drug response. They are sometimes notable because their sequence similarity to the functional GAPDH gene can complicate laboratory assays such as PCR and qPCR, potentially resulting in misleading expression data if not carefully controlled[1][12].
