Overview

Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase pseudogene 68 (GAPDHP68) is a member of the large family of human pseudogenes related to the functional glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase gene (GAPDH)[3][7]. Pseudogenes like GAPDHP68 are genomic sequences derived from functional genes but have accumulated mutations that prevent them from encoding a functional protein. Unlike the active GAPDH enzyme, which plays a central role in glycolysis, GAPDHP68 does not produce a functional enzyme and lacks direct biochemical or therapeutic target activity. Some pseudogenes are transcribed into RNA, which may act as competing endogenous RNAs or small RNAs capable of regulating parental gene expression, but there is no evidence that GAPDHP68 itself is a validated therapeutic target or has established physiological or pathological roles[2][7]. GAPDHP68 should not be confused with the functional GAPDH gene, which is an important glycolytic enzyme.
