Overview

Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase pseudogene 69 (GAPDHP69) is one of a large number of processed pseudogenes derived from the functional glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH) gene. Pseudogenes are genetic elements that resemble protein-coding genes but are unable to encode functional proteins due to mutations or deletions. GAPDHP69 is non-functional and does not play a direct biological or therapeutic role. While some pseudogenes have been implicated in gene regulation or disease, there is no evidence that GAPDHP69 itself has any such function. GAPDH has many processed pseudogenes in the human genome (estimates range from 50 to over 60), but only one is functional (the protein-coding GAPDH). Pseudogenes, including GAPDHP69, are generally considered "genomic fossils" or "junk DNA," though a minority may attain regulatory functions; no such function has been reported for GAPDHP69. The presence of pseudogenes can pose analytical challenges in experimental design, including misamplification or transcript misattribution in molecular assays. In conclusion, GAPDHP69 is a processed pseudogene with no established function, alias, interacting drugs, clinical or safety relevance, and is not a valid target for therapeutic intervention.

Mechanism of action

None

03

Biological functions

None (does not code a functional protein; pseudogenes sometimes regulate parental genes at the RNA level, but no evidence for GAPDHP69 specifically)
04

Disease associations

None established for this individual pseudogene; some pseudogenes have regulatory or disease associations, but there is no evidence for GAPDHP69 specifically
