Target
GAPDHP72
Molecular classification
Pseudogene, Processed pseudogene, Non-coding DNA

Overview

Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase pseudogene 72 (GAPDHP72) is a processed pseudogene located in the human genome, originating from retrotransposition of the functional GAPDH mRNA[1][3]. GAPDH pseudogenes are especially abundant in mammalian genomes, with over 60 processed GAPDH pseudogenes in humans, but GAPDHP72 does not produce a functional protein and is not subject to the selective pressures that govern its parent gene[1][2][3]. Processed pseudogenes like GAPDHP72 can accumulate mutations, lack introns and functional promoters, and may sometimes participate in gene regulation as noncoding RNA, but they are not considered druggable or disease-associated targets[1][2].
