Overview

GCSHP1, or Glycine cleavage system protein H pseudogene 1, is a non-protein-coding DNA sequence derived from the gene encoding glycine cleavage system protein H (GCSH)[11][14]. Pseudogenes like GCSHP1 typically do not encode functional proteins and have historically been considered "genomic fossils" or nonfunctional DNA. Recent research indicates that some pseudogenes may have regulatory effects at the RNA level, but there is no specific evidence that GCSHP1 has a defined role in human biology or disease[6][8][10]. Unlike the functional GCSH, which participates in glycine metabolism and is associated with inherited metabolic diseases, GCSHP1 does not contribute directly to any known enzymatic activity or signaling pathway[1][3][5][12]. No drugs, biomarkers, or safety data are reported for GCSHP1.
