Glycine Coagonist Site of N-methyl-D-aspartate Receptor (None)

Target
None
Molecular classification
Receptor, Ionotropic ligand-gated cation channel
01

Overview

The glycine coagonist site is a critical modulatory site on the NMDA receptor, an ionotropic glutamate receptor that plays a central role in excitatory neurotransmission, synaptic plasticity, and memory formation in the central nervous system. Activation of the NMDA receptor requires simultaneous binding of glutamate and glycine, making glycine an essential co-agonist for channel opening. Dysregulation or abnormal modulation at either agonist or coagonist sites has been implicated in various neurological disorders.
