Overview

Glycine metabolism refers to the biochemical pathways involved in the synthesis, utilization, and degradation of glycine, which is the simplest amino acid and a key molecule in mammals and other animals. Glycine is considered non-essential because it can be synthesized endogenously; however, its de novo synthesis may be insufficient under certain physiological or pathological conditions, making it conditionally essential.
