Glycine N-acyltransferase-like protein 3 (GLYATL3) is an enzyme that catalyzes the conjugation of long-chain fatty acyl-CoA thioesters and glycine to generate long-chain N-(fatty acyl)glycines, which serve as intermediates in the biosynthesis of fatty acid amides[1][3][5]. GLYATL3 is localized to the mitochondria and is predicted to play a role in lipid and fatty acid amide metabolism in mammalian systems[1][3][5]. Experimental knockdown of GLYATL3 leads to decreases in cellular levels of long-chain N-acylglycines and primary fatty acid amides, supporting its central function in this pathway[1]. The gene is not currently recognized as a direct drug target or receptor and no known drugs or specific safety concerns are reported in current biomedical databases[3]. GLYATL3 has also been linked as a gene of potential interest in cancer, specifically comedo carcinoma[3].
