Glycine transporter type 2 (GlyT2) is a sodium- and chloride-dependent glycine transporter belonging to the SLC6 family. Primarily expressed in neurons of the spinal cord, brainstem, and cerebellum, it plays a crucial role in glycinergic neurotransmission by regulating extracellular glycine concentrations at inhibitory synapses. GlyT2 mediates the reuptake of glycine into presynaptic terminals, enabling vesicular refilling and sustaining inhibitory signaling. It is a key target for modulating glycinergic neurotransmission.
