Target intelligence / Profile preview
Bile salts are the sodium (or potassium) salts of conjugated bile acids, which are steroid acids derived from cholesterol in the liver. They are a primary organic component of bile, a digestive fluid produced by the liver and stored in the gallbladder. Bile salts play essential roles in digestion, absorption of dietary fats and fat-soluble vitamins, elimination of waste products such as bilirubin and excess cholesterol, and modulation of gut microbiota.
Emulsification of fats; cholesterol solubilization; FXR and GPBAR1/TGR5 receptor activation
