Overview
Glycogen synthase kinase-3 alpha (GSK3A) is a serine/threonine protein kinase that plays critical roles in numerous cellular processes, including metabolism, cell signaling, proliferation, differentiation, and survival. It is a constitutively active enzyme regulated primarily by phosphorylation at Ser21, which inhibits its activity. GSK3A is involved in the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway, insulin signaling, and the mTOR/p70S6K pathway. Dysregulation of GSK3A has been implicated in diabetes mellitus, cancer, neurodegenerative diseases, and psychiatric disorders, making it an important therapeutic target.
