Glycohydrolase

Molecular classification
Enzyme, Hydrolase, Glycosidase
01

Overview

Glycohydrolases are a broad class of enzymes that catalyze the hydrolysis of glycosidic bonds in carbohydrates, glycoproteins, glycolipids, and related molecules. They play essential roles in various biological processes by breaking down complex sugars or sugar-containing structures. Key examples include Poly(ADP-ribose) Glycohydrolase (PARG), which regulates cellular processes such as DNA repair and cell death, and NAD+ Glycohydrolase, which participates in nicotinate/nicotinamide metabolism and calcium signaling. PARG is a therapeutic target for inflammation, ischemia-reperfusion injury, stroke, and cancer.
