Target intelligence / Profile preview
Glycolate oxidase (GO), also known as hydroxyacid oxidase 1 (HAO1), is a peroxisomal enzyme primarily responsible for the FMN-dependent oxidation of glycolate to glyoxylate and, subsequently, glyoxylate to oxalate. This enzyme plays a central role in glyoxylate metabolism and is implicated in the pathogenesis of primary hyperoxaluria type 1 (PH1) due to its involvement in oxalate production—a key factor in kidney stone formation. Targeting GO pharmacologically represents an emerging strategy for treating PHI by reducing hepatic oxalogenesis.
Targeted inhibition of GO/HAO1 to reduce hepatic oxalogenesis.
