Overview
Glycoprotein B (gB) is an essential envelope glycoprotein of human cytomegalovirus (HCMV), a double-stranded DNA virus in the Herpesviridae family. gB is highly conserved among herpesviruses and plays a critical role in viral entry, cell-to-cell transmission, and membrane fusion during infection. The AD-2 domain, located at the N terminus of gB, includes Site I (amino acids 68–77), a highly conserved linear epitope that elicits potently neutralizing antibodies.
