Overview

Glycoprotein VI (GPVI) is a platelet membrane protein that functions as a key receptor for collagen and other ligands, playing a central role in platelet activation following vascular injury. It is crucial for the initiation of thrombus formation and has emerged as an important target for antithrombotic therapy due to its selective expression on platelets and megakaryocytes. Upon binding to collagen, GPVI initiates intracellular signaling cascades leading to platelet activation, aggregation, and thrombus formation. Targeting GPVI offers potential advantages over traditional dual-antiplatelet therapy by reducing thrombotic risk while minimizing bleeding complications.
