Glycosaminoglycan (GAG) mimetic activity refers to the ability of molecules, often synthetic or semi-synthetic, to replicate the structural and functional properties of natural glycosaminoglycans. These mimetics are designed to modulate biological processes by interacting with proteins that naturally bind GAGs, influencing cell signaling, tissue repair, inflammation, and other crucial functions. They act by competing with endogenous GAGs, modulating signal transduction, altering calcium mobilization, or affecting protease activity.
