Glycosyltransferase 6 domain-containing protein 1 (GLT6D1)

Glycosyltransferase 6 domain-containing protein 1 (GLT6D1) is a member of the glycosyltransferase 6 gene family and encodes a putative enzyme with probable hexosyltransferase activity. In humans, the GT6 gene family includes the functional ABO blood group gene, but the precise substrate and physiological role of GLT6D1 remain unclear. Variants of GLT6D1 have been identified as genetic susceptibility loci for aggressive periodontitis through genome-wide association studies, with high gene expression detected in leukocytes and gingival tissue. The molecular function is annotated as possible involvement in glycan biosynthesis, but to date there are no known drugs specifically targeting this protein, and its role as a validated therapeutic target has not been established[3][4][6][9].
