Molecular classification
Pseudogene

Overview

Glyoxylate reductase 1 homolog pseudogene 1 (GLYR1P1) is a noncoding DNA sequence in the human genome that closely resembles the functional glyoxylate reductase 1 gene (GLYR1) but contains mutations that disrupt its ability to produce a functional protein[1][9][5][7]. Like other pseudogenes, GLYR1P1 is not translated into a functional product and is considered nonfunctional in terms of protein synthesis. Pseudogenes can arise via gene duplication or retrotransposition events, and though many have no known biological function, some pseudogenes regulate the expression of related functional genes through diverse mechanisms such as serving as miRNA decoys or influencing mRNA stability[3][4][5]. There is currently no specific biological function, disease association, or drug interaction reported for GLYR1P1, and it is not recognized as a therapeutic target.
