The glypican 5 pseudogene (ENSG00000260344) is a non-functional DNA sequence derived from the glypican 5 gene, part of a family of glycosylphosphatidylinositol-anchored heparan sulfate proteoglycans involved in cellular growth and signaling during development. Unlike the canonical *GPC5* gene, which encodes a cell surface proteoglycan with regulatory roles in cell proliferation and cancer, the pseudogene does not produce a functional protein and is not considered a drug target. Pseudogenes are often investigated in genomic studies for evolutionary purposes and may occasionally have regulatory RNA functions, but the glypican 5 pseudogene lacks established therapeutic, biomarker, or drug interaction relevance[7].
