GM3 (Neu5Gc) ganglioside

Molecular classification
Glycosphingolipid, Ganglioside
01

Overview

GM3 (Neu5Gc) ganglioside is a glycosphingolipid found on the surface of cells, particularly enriched in certain cancers. It consists of a ceramide lipid anchor, a lactosylceramide core, and one N-glycolylneuraminic acid (Neu5Gc) residue. Humans lack the enzyme to synthesize Neu5Gc, making it a tumor-associated antigen and a target for cancer immunotherapy.
