GMDS divergent transcript (GMDS-DT), also known as GMDS-AS1, is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) located on human chromosome 6p25.3-p25.2, positioned head-to-head and transcribed divergently to the nearby GMDS gene[1][5][6][7]. GMDS-DT has little or no protein-coding potential and predominantly resides in the nucleus[1]. It plays a notable role in various cancer types; in colorectal cancer, it promotes tumorigenesis and cancer stem cell-like properties by stabilizing the HuR protein and constitutively activating the STAT3/Wnt pathway, which leads to enhanced cell proliferation and tumorigenic capabilities[1]. In hepatocellular carcinoma, low expression of GMDS-DT is associated with poor prognosis, suggesting a possible tumor suppressor role in that context[6]. It is considered a biomarker for disease progression in liver cancer after hepatectomy[3][6]. GMDS-DT is NOT a classical drug target such as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or transcription factor, and there are no known drugs or direct mechanisms of drug action targeting this lncRNA[1][3][5][6][7].
