Overview

GNG12 antisense RNA 1 (GNG12-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed in antisense orientation to the tumor suppressor DIRAS3 and located on chromosome 1. It does not encode a protein but regulates the expression of neighboring genes, notably impacting DIRAS3 expression via transcriptional interference, and affects important cellular functions such as the cell cycle and migration by modulating pathways like MET signaling. GNG12-AS1 is differentially expressed in cancer and may act as a tumor suppressor, but its precise molecular mechanisms and wider disease associations continue to be investigated. This lncRNA is nuclear-localized and can regulate gene expression both at the transcriptional and post-transcriptional level, with consequences for cellular phenotypes relevant to malignancy[1][2][3][4][5].
