It is related to the GOLGA2 (Golgin A2) gene, which is involved in Golgi apparatus structure and protein trafficking, but GOLGA2P8 itself lacks coding potential and has no recognized biological or therapeutic role. As a pseudogene, it is not a target for drugs or therapeutic intervention, does not play an active molecular role, and is not used as a biomarker. Multiple alternative names and previous identifiers exist for this locus. Pseudogenes are often annotated in genomic data because they can have evolutionary, regulatory, or transcriptional relevance, but GOLGA2P8 has no described physiologic or disease involvement.
