TVP23C, also named Golgi apparatus membrane protein TVP23 homolog C, is a small transmembrane protein encoded by the TVP23C gene on chromosome 17. It is part of a conserved family found in vertebrates and yeast, defined by the domain of unknown function DUF846, and is believed to participate in membrane trafficking within the trans-Golgi network and endosomal system[1][6]. TVP23C is structurally composed of four alpha helical transmembrane domains and is highly homologous to TVP23A and TVP23B, sharing more than 50% amino acid identity[1]. While TVP23A/B function is better characterized (retrograde trafficking in Golgi), the specific functions and disease roles of TVP23C remain poorly described, with no current evidence for being a therapeutic target or disease marker[1][6][5]. TVP23C may undergo fusion with other genes such as CDRT4 in certain tumors, but the functional and clinical significance of these events is not known[2].
