Overview

Golgi apparatus protein 1 (GLG1) is a glycosylated, integral membrane protein predominantly localized to the Golgi apparatus cisternae and is widely expressed across tissues[5]. It functions as a binding partner for fibroblast growth factors (FGFs) and serves as a ligand for E-selectin, mediating interactions important for immune cell trafficking and adhesion[1][2][3][4][7]. GLG1 is also referred to as MG-160, ESL-1, and cysteine-rich fibroblast growth factor receptor, highlighting its multifunctional binding properties. Its roles include regulation of chondrocyte differentiation, modulation of growth factor signaling, and participation in inflammation and tumor biology. Elevated or altered GLG1 expression has been associated with certain cancers (notably astrocytomas and pancreatic cancer) and neurodegenerative conditions, often reflecting changes in Golgi apparatus integrity[7]. There are no currently approved drugs directly targeting GLG1, and it is not classified as a typical drug target such as a receptor, enzyme, or transporter[1][3][4][7].
