Golgi-associated PDZ and coiled-coil motif-containing protein (GOPC) is a scaffolding protein encoded by the GOPC gene in humans. It contains a PDZ domain, which is known to bind the C-terminus of other proteins in a sequence-specific manner and play roles in protein-protein interactions within the cell[1]. GOPC is primarily localized to the Golgi apparatus and is involved in intracellular protein trafficking and degradation[2][7]. It interacts with a variety of membrane proteins such as cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR), and participates in regulating the chloride currents associated with CFTR function[3][5][7]. Other interaction partners include GRID2, BECN1, RHOQ, ACCN3, and CSPG5[1]. GOPC is also implicated in ARFRP1-dependent insulin secretion from pancreatic beta-cells[6]. Although GOPC has some association with disease processes such as cancer (glioblastoma fusion) and cystic fibrosis, no approved drugs are currently known to directly target it[2][7]. GOPC functions as a scaffolding protein, not as a classic therapeutic receptor, enzyme, or transporter.
